Windscreens and Rust Corrosion

It’s amazing what one can find after removing a windscreen. A seemingly clean car can surprise even our technicians when they remove the windscreen and find rust underneath.

This poses a few issues, the most important is structural integrity.

Modern vehicles have windscreens bonded to the body with a special adhesive called “urethane”.

This method increases the structural integrity of the vehicle (particularly the Pillars and roof).

Where corrosion is present, the structural integrity may be compromised because the rust can cause the urethane adhesive to fail.

Rust doesn’t have to be very bad, just simply present.

Our glaziers are well prepared to deal with minor surface corrosion on-site, however for severe rust we may refer you to a panelbeater.

Toyota Corolla

Late model, Toyota Corolla Windscreen Repair. The Corolla is one of the most common models we repair.

There are still plenty of older Corolla’s on the road still going strong, and we still have a really good range of windscreen available.

The Corolla featured in this picture is a 2009, the current shape Corolla at the time of writing.

This Corolla has had the windscreen replaced at the customers home in Auckland.

Smashed Windscreens

We see plenty of badly smashed windscreens. Usually when damage is this bad it is caused by vandalism, rather than a big stone or object from the road.

Most of our customers described coming back to their vehicle and finding the windscreen completely smashed.

This windscreen was the result of roadside damage, and of course will need to be fully replaced.

Our technician took photos of this Subaru Legacy before he replaced the windscreen.
